Survey Results: Water Conservation Rates
Survey Info - This survey was sent on behalf of SUEZ Water New York to the FlashVote community for SUEZ, NY.
Rockland County is becoming more populated, but our water supply is limited to Lake DeForest and groundwater reserves. So beginning in 2017, SUEZ switched from higher summer rates and lower winter rates to new rates that encourage efficient water use and conservation year round. Water users pay for what they use and the cost per gallon now increases as total usage increases, across three tiers.
For example, from 1 to 4487 gallons per month, residential customers pay 0.795 cents per gallon ($7.95 per 1000 gallons). Then from 4488 to 9723 gallons per month they pay 0.982 cents per gallon ($9.82 per 1000 gallons) for those additional gallons. Then for 9724 gallons per month and above they pay 1.356 cents per gallon ($13.56 per 1000 gallons).
Prior to reading this question, which best describes what you knew about your SUEZ water bill?
Which tier are you usually in during the summer? (Billing is in CCF and 1 CCF = 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons)
The current rate structure means that the most water-efficient homes (in the lowest usage tiers) also pay the lowest rates per gallon of water.
Do you agree with the idea that customers who use more water should pay higher rates per gallon and customers who use less should pay less per gallon?
