In July 2023, the Utah Department of Transportation officially announced a three phase $726 million plan to reduce traffic by 30% in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Phase 1 starts in 2025 with more busing and some peak hour toll charges to reduce the number of cars. Then, if still needed to reduce traffic, a Phase 2 would build snowsheds to keep the road open during and after snowstorms. Finally, if still needed to meet traffic goals, Phase 3 (in 2040) includes building an 8 mile gondola up the canyon.

Which parts of this plan to reduce traffic in Little Cottonwood Canyon sound good to you, if any? (Choose all that apply, if any)
Along with Salt Lake City and the Metropolitan Water District, Sandy City has opposed parts of the plan based on concerns that there has not been sufficient study of water quality impacts on the Canyon watershed from which Sandy City gets water. Sandy City also has concerns that there has not been sufficient study of traffic impacts on SR 209 (9400 South).
Do you agree or disagree with Sandy City’s concerns about the plan?
Last Winter (2022-2023) on “Canyon Closure” days the City moved the Canyon traffic off of SR 209 (9400 South) and onto the shoulder on Wasatch Blvd. Which best describes what you think of this change to traffic management?
