The City of Pleasanton collects an 8% Transient Occupancy Tax (“TOT”) - also known as a “hotel tax” - that is paid by visitors and other people who stay in Pleasanton hotels or short-term rentals (30 days or less). These funds help support general City services such as public safety, infrastructure maintenance, parks, and recreation.

The Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) rate in Pleasanton is 8% and the rates in many cities in Alameda County are 12% or higher. The City of Pleasanton is considering increasing the TOT rate from 8% to 12%, over two years. Initial estimates show a 12% TOT would bring in approximately $2.8 million per year to help fund general City services and long-term financial stability.
