Survey Results: Outdoor Lighting
Survey Info - This survey was sent on behalf of the Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association (TMVOA) through FlashVote
Outdoor lighting on properties can point upward (landscape uplighting), outward (driveway/walkway lights) or downward (outdoor ceiling lights) or illuminate in all directions (post lights). Different types of outdoor lighting create different amounts of light visible from neighboring properties and create different amounts of glare when looking up at the sky.
Do you think that outdoor lighting and sky glare are a problem in Mountain Village?
The Town of Mountain Village is considering new outdoor lighting rules to reduce light visible from neighbors and to reduce sky glare, which would apply to all existing properties (not just new construction). Changes would include eliminating landscape uplighting and most other lighting that is not strictly downward by 2031 to 2036 (depending on the fixture). It would also require warmer bulb colors and put new limits on holiday lights (a 10 p.m. light curfew with holiday lights only allowed November through January).
