Please groom the trail for skiing and snowshoeing - snow and winter sports are WHY WE LIVE HERE!! Other places do that to great effect and locals and visitors love using and commuting by ski and skate ski. Plowing is a big waste of fuel and resources. If the trail cannot be groomed, simply leave it for winter sports. Thanks
I live at donner lake and have not used the trail
Disappointed that someone has been walking their dog through my back yard and letting it poop there without cleaning it up. Not really sure why it needs to be in my back yard at all (there is green belt nearby). And isn't it supposed to be on a leash? Hoping that this was a visitor and that they are leaving soon. BTW, glad to know that the Legacy Trail is being plowed. Looking forward to using it!
Legacy trail is a wonderful safe trail. We need to encourage visitors to use shuttles from offsite parking areas. It may hp when the railyard project is completed
If we continue to have a strong snow year, would it be possible to have the legacy trail both plowed partially and also left for X-c skiers to use ?
Thank you for plowing the legacy trail, we use it 5-6 times a week with our dogs. We need to figure out a solution for the snow play trash and parking at popular winter trailheads (ie sunrise bowl). Aside from that, holiday crowds are a boon for local businesses- bring them on, bad attitudes and all.
Very glad town is clearing the trail. Just moved back to Glenshire from Tahoe Donner and will be pleased to use it.
Not exactly related but I think the Town should consider grooming the Trout Creek trail. It seems like a lot of people are using it for xc skiing and walking. You can get little groomers that can be pulled behind a snowmobile. I think the Town should consider taking over winter maintenance of the bike path leading to the Pioneer Center. That path is heavily used in the winter but businesses are using it for snow storage and are not responsive when you ask them to stop. The Town needs to find a better sledding option. Dumpsters at McIver Meadow would probably help. Also, sell permits to fund the clean up of the Meadow. Or, consider fully shutting down the sledding at that hill and direct everyone to a Town managed sledding hill at the park or something.
Better signage re: parking in downtown; Trash cans so visitors can dispose of their unwanted items, i.e., broken sleds, cardboard. Legacy Trail was nice and there were several people using it when we walked a ways.
Love the Legcy trail! When it comes to visitors, we need them for our local business but we need to educate them more on mountain community. For.example, the sled hill on DPR, create parking, put up signs and install garabage cans. It's supposed to not be a sled hill but people use it, don't fight it, accommodate and educate.
I think the snow plowing on the Legacy Trail needs to be better publicized so more people will use it!
Maybe some no U-turn signs on DPR would help. Or signs as they get off the freeway saying "You are entering Truckee, the laws of physics still apply here". The snow removal on the Legacy trail and the other sidewalks around town is great and encourages people to use their feet.
The number of visitors was great for the economy, but made it really difficult for the people who actually live here. Some of that inconvenience is just part of living in a tourist town, but this year seemed to be especially bad in terms of things like the trash and inconsiderate behavior of people using the illegal sled hill by the old dairy. It would be nice if we could be more proactive in dealing with things like that -- either committing to enforcing the "no sledding" rule, or coming up with a way to manage it. Also, parking downtown was a mess; it was great to have Town staff down there actively writing tickets for people who were parking on the sidewalks, in crosswalks, etc. I think we need a strong presence during the times of high tourist visitation to help control the chaos and keep things safe for everyone. By taking an active role in managing these types of issues, I think it can make a better holiday experience for everyone.
I am undecided on plowing the trail at this time. Would be great left alone for snow shoeing and cross country skiing, but would limit new visitors discovering/using it.
No but please just replace as many plow trucks and loaders plows with blowers. My Mailbox has been 6ft away from the driveable road for over a month now. You have to make multiple passes with the plows and then come back with the blower/cutter. Why not just use the blower most of the time? Get some Cat 908's with a blower in the front and they'll go faster than the big machine.
In regards to the Holiday visitors, I think that having a police presence at the intersection of Donner Pass Rd. & Bridge Street would be very helpful. Visitors just don't read or maybe is bad signage regarding the 3-way stop. And they don't get how to use round-a bouts. They are a necessary evil. We are a tourist based community.
We could use a designated sledding hill with ample parking. These make shift areas fill business parking lots, garbage is left since tourists need cans, and it would be safer.
Need to somehow track how many people are taking advantage (using) the winter plowed trail
