I love the legacy trail. Visitors are a economic necessity and it's a great reminder that we live in a place that everyone wants to be. Yes, traffic is affected but with a lot of patience and little planning, traveling around Truckee can be fun and I like seeing the tourists with arms full of shopping bags and the restaurants filled with glutinous faces.
Disappointed that someone has been walking their dog through my back yard and letting it poop there without cleaning it up. Not really sure why it needs to be in my back yard at all (there is green belt nearby). And isn't it supposed to be on a leash? Hoping that this was a visitor and that they are leaving soon. BTW, glad to know that the Legacy Trail is being plowed. Looking forward to using it!
I thoroughly appreciate and acknowledge the fact that our economy is a set sustained by visitors and tourists. On the flipside though, it's tough to reconcile the benefits of tourists when you see the amount of sheer litter discarded throughout the town, especially with the recent episodes of broken sleds in various locations throughout the town. I love the legacy trail, even in winter. I definitely appreciate the fact that is plowed, although it downside is the increased foot traffic in the amount of dog feces on the trail itself.
think about grooming the legacy trail vs. ploughing
I love that the legacy trail is cleared as it is one place I can take my baby and stroller. Holiday visitors are a double- edged swords. We rely on them for our economy yet the litter situation is upsetting. Isn't littering in CA illegal? I think more signage regarding littering is needed.
Legacy trail is a wonderful safe trail. We need to encourage visitors to use shuttles from offsite parking areas. It may hp when the railyard project is completed
If we continue to have a strong snow year, would it be possible to have the legacy trail both plowed partially and also left for X-c skiers to use ?
Wish the Legacy Trail was not plowed, but left for XC skiing. The holiday crush is a great and difficult thing, having lived here for 30 years. To work in the crush is exhausting, and sort of wrecks the holiday season - or at least it robbed the time of year of it's magic. I leave to Reno for groceries - the mobs at the stores are overwhelming. Skip the post office too from Christmas to New years.
Thank you for plowing the legacy trail, we use it 5-6 times a week with our dogs. We need to figure out a solution for the snow play trash and parking at popular winter trailheads (ie sunrise bowl). Aside from that, holiday crowds are a boon for local businesses- bring them on, bad attitudes and all.
I know that Truckee has always been a tourist town, and businesses need the revenue, but Teuckee cannot cope with the excessive tourist activity. It is important to remember that local residents are important too. If we only plan for increased second home and tourist activity, we are ignoring the community feel of Truckee. In the long run, this will be detrimental to the town in many ways--including economic. 2. Plowing the legacy trail Is good for many different types of users- families and people who like to walk in a easily accessible environment.
Better signage re: parking in downtown; Trash cans so visitors can dispose of their unwanted items, i.e., broken sleds, cardboard. Legacy Trail was nice and there were several people using it when we walked a ways.
We are very fortunate to have the Legacy Trail available year round. Great job Truckee.
truckee river legacy trail the trail should not be plowed in the winter leave it in its natural condition
I think the snow plowing on the Legacy Trail needs to be better publicized so more people will use it!
Grooming the Legacy trail for snow shoes and skiing would be better, encourage winter activity. The ice patches left from plowing were hazardous. The sledding hill on Donner Pass road is ridiculous. The tourists cause traffic issues in an already congested area and leave their trash!
Maybe some no U-turn signs on DPR would help. Or signs as they get off the freeway saying "You are entering Truckee, the laws of physics still apply here". The snow removal on the Legacy trail and the other sidewalks around town is great and encourages people to use their feet.
I think both the Legacy Trail and the number of visitors was fantastic. My only issue is inconsiderate driving by both locals and visitors.
This spring, please repair the cracks in the Legacy trail and the trail bordering Old Brockway Rd and Regional Park. Thank you
We have always supported the Truckee River legacy Trail. Holiday visitors can be a challenge, but are the lifeblood of our tourist-driven economy.
