more road maintenance on the sidestreets of Eastern Placer County - the roads in Alpine Meadows are in need of repaving.
To get the information out about events happening in Placer County. It seems that I get the information after the event passed.
Get rid of the homeless shelter in the dewitt center so the derelicts move on. The crime in this town has exploded where residents no longer feel safe in their own homes much less in the community at large and are taking their business to other placer county or sacramento county businesses.
Make it easier and cheaper (both direct payments to Placer, and other costs we need to incur) to get building permits.
It has become to difficult to recycle oil. The fee imposed on automotive repair shops have caused them all to downgrade the size of their tanks and will no longer let people dump oil. I live in Colfax, and Recology, our local trash substation no longer will take it. Recycling has to be made easy to do, or financially profitable to get citizens to recycle. I feel like placer has taken a step backwards.
No suggestions at this time. I think Placer County is doing a great job in customer service.
it would be lovely to have a resource guide on placer.org. by category or alphabetic like, APS, CPS, burn permits, local fire station, where to donate food, volunteer opportunities, non emergency police calls, reporting of hazardous situations, disposing of trash, health services, emergency services, Permits, public works.....It would save time, calls to county offices, frustration with the system and gain resident respect. I would like to know what resources are available and most importantly, how to access them. I also think their should be a county access line fully staffed during working hours to help residents with directions to resources, complaints and issues. It would bring the community together.
I have noticed a lot of road work going on in Placer County...we really need this...and I thank you Placer County for the work you are doing.
Closing small town libraries was a slap in the face to many of us. You'd better actually use the money "saved" to improve service in the remaining branches. Placer County is full of wealthy people, with staggeringly high amounts of prop tax flowing in. You shouldn't be closing anything. Stop throwing money at police and fire. We can't afford their sky high benefits and pensions. Stop passing that explosive buck on to future generations. Simple...just say no the next time they demand more. There's my simple solution in a nutshell...learn to say NO to public employee unions.
I live in Lake Tahoe and feel under represented by Placer County. Our input is discounted. I would like to see increased funding for our library and I would like to see the County address parking issues in our community. The last 2 county road projects eliminated much needed parking for locals and tourists.
There is a large, privately owned lot, south of Lomida and east of Placer Canyon Parkway which is a grassy, overgrown fire hazard. The fire hazard exists for both Sterling Point and Placer Canyon homeowners. We are aware that efforts have been made to contact the owners in Southern CA and get them to mow, but to no avail. Please increase the pressure on the lot owners to mow the tall grass or have the County mow and submit the bill to the owners.
Placer County has been notorious over the years for being slow, inefficient and difficult to get things accomplished when working with them. Building Department, Planning Department, etc.... for any type of project takes way too long. It seems like we keep getting more chiefs and are short on Indians. TRPA seems like a streamlined process nowadays compared to the county. Low level managers need to be able to make decisions instead of "conduiting" things up the food chain.
While we have a Public Health Department in Placer County I feel it is unrecognized by most citizens. I believe the Department is hidden and the services they offer are unknown. I believe they should be more "in the public eye" as to their services and all the good work they produce in our County.
No suggestions come to mind. We are so happy with Placer County that we would never consider buying a home in another local county. Keep up the great work!
Clean Up the sides of the freeway. 65 and 80 in placer county have tons of trash on the sides of the road. Please schedule clean ups more often!
establish a community services district for the South Placer area similar to what they have in El Dorado Hills. It might have to be more centralized to cover the various communities but we would have much better oversight of the service provided to residents.
Education and communication. Your newsletter and flash surveys are awesome. Education on specifics of services - what is provided to whom and data - I honestly can't give a suggestion on how to improve without a better understanding. I just moved to Placer County and so far so good.
More information regarding proposed building. More information regarding salaries of Placer County employees - especially management (frequency and method for increases)
Live in Foresthill. Recently moved from another city in Placer County. Seems that when street work was done in the other city it was started and completed and came out satisfactory. Sometimes it seems that road work here starts whenever, gets left uncompleted for a long time and doesn't really look like it's done - when it's done. I care and respect just as much about my home and surroundings here as I did where I lived before. I would hope that those who are responsible for providing services for all of Placer County feel the same way.
Placer County Supervisors by directing staff to pursue only indoor marijuana cultivation are wrong. Who believes we can control marijuana cultivation using zoning regulations, when the federal government using criminal law failed so badly with alcohol prohibition in the 1920s. We must accept marijuana cultivation and restricted such that you residents are impacted by the odor.
I believe you are doing a fantastic job. The county website, email notifications and newsletter all help keep Placer County residents informed.
Land use regulation has become overly restrictive to such an extent that development is almost non existent for homeowners who are not millionaires or have millions of dollars to sink into their projects. WE need to improve the process of development for win win projects and allow a more expedient review. Remove county staff that are obstructionists or do not understand small development work and job creation in placer county.
I have made phone calls and sent emails about getting a tree removed along a roadway, and no one from Placer County will resspond. It would be helpful if there was a central contact point to get questions answered about which department handles which services.
The county is very responsive when I've needed to contact them with complaints of graffiti, dumping, park clean up or parking violations. I would like there to be a more pro active stance on these issues in rural placer county. However, I am aware land stewardship is my responsibility as much as the governments and am thankful for your responsiveness. Maybe I could change that 'neutral' to 'satisfied'? :)
Support improvements for our schools and libraries. Work to partner with our local businesses and schools to help our students find internships and jobs, ultimately leading to careers here in Placer County.
Connect the dots between public health and the food produced in Placer County. Less than 10% of our residents purchase locally grown food. We are what we eat and we should always eat food from the land under our feet. Placer's public health expenses will decrease and farm/ranch income will increase. Makes sense to me.
The books available in the library are very limited. Maybe Placer County could enter into an agreement with Sacramento to share books, and thereby offer a lot more.
Not really sure I'm aware of what services Placer County (as an entity) provides versus the services provided by various vendors.
I am a new resident but the first thing I did was sign up for everything offered on the Placer County Website. I seem pleased at the info that I am getting now. Registering to vote was a breeze ... especially when I needed to get a hold of a person. Response was incredible.
Having animal control in Truckee, our of Placer County, is an inconvenience and expensive.
Fund the library in Loomis. Libraries in small towns are more than books. Taking that away from a small community and funneling the money into technology and employee benefits is not helpful to Placer County communities.
The Placer County Board of Supervisors has completely disregarded their North Tahoe constituents, planning commission and laws to approve the Martis Valley West project. It is unconscionable and I am horrified that my tax dollars are going to be spent on years of litigation. This issue alone overshadows all of the other services that I get from Placer County.
I live in the city of Lincoln so I have a bunch of suggestions for them :) However, as a comment, I did notice recently that Placer County switched to the Green, Yellow, Red food facility inspection placards - great new service!
Placer County Sheriff's Deputies should give speeding tickets on Foresthill Road as CHP does not have enough officers to do so.
We are older and retired so our demands are probably less than many of the Placer County residents. However, the roads in our area were recently done, stop signs placed in strategic locations and generally life in Placer County is quite pleasant. For comedic relief we have the Costco misadventure. The mini shopping center in front of Home Depot is so much better than having a Costco, or maybe not?
Our Firefighters need more and better pay. I am a retired Placer County/CalFire Captain. As a Placer County Fire Officer, I was paid nothing. I was a Volunteer. As a CalFire Fire Officer, I was paid. My pay was WAY below the California Fire Officer's average salary. Better pay and benefits for our Fire Departments is required. Their job is one of the most dangerous jobs in the USA. Pay them accordingly.
We need better traffic control on these construction site through Kings Beach and other construction going on with them Placer County it's just taking too long and timing of the bus system too long
Get a telephone system that facilitates getting to Placer County programs without going through 1-3 intermediaries. for example, each Board of Supervisor member should have a separate telephone contact number. Getting to speak to people in charge of various public services is a nightmare . The nightmare includes having to leave messages because no one is answering the phone calls, talking to a person answering the phone and being told he/she will leave a message for the person you are trying to call, never getting a return phone call. Also, the Placer County email system is outdated. the system will not allow an email to be delivered without receiving information that is difficult or impossible to get and may be a breech of confidentiality. For example, I tried to contact the Placer County Health Officer and was not able to send an email without providing additional and useless information such as incoming mail server and outgoing mail server. the system should be much easier.
Placer County is large with many constituencies. I would like to see it decentralize and delegate authority to local areas.
It would be helpful if Placer County would adhere to it's Charter and hold a General Plan review for North Auburn every 20 years!!!
I live in Granite Bay and feel the government of Placer County doesn't hear my concerns about our rural character and "country" feel. Regardless of our wants, the county seems more interested in immediate growth, with disregard to previous thoughtful planning. I - and many of my neighbors - feel totally stepped-on by the supervisors.
Assure that the "sensitivity to minorities" element included in the Placer County Sheriff's Department training is adequately documented to withstand a court challenge.
Land use: Stop high density rezoning, we have a Community plan! Too much Developer influence on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. The Supervisors have no vision for the county other than to build it out and ruin the rural nature of the area. Speeding: Where are the police, write some bloody speeding tickets on Douglas Boulevard. Highway 80, Roseville to Truckee: Add a third lane already! The mix of slow trucks and speeding drivers is very dangerous.
Better bus/rail transportation to all parts of Placer & Sacramento Counties.
Alternate modes or thinking on transpiration. Like... - More center lanes on two way streets that could be use as 2 line one way and one the other way and then flipped for traffic flow. They do this for ski traffic in Tahoe city but how great would it be if the entire run of the major roads around the lake and to Truckee etc. could do this… - Gondola from Tahoe City to Alpine-Squaw, like south shore has. - Truly contiguous bike bath around the lake on the Placer side, there are a couple spots it forces you to the road which is unsafe.
I live in North Auburn, being relatively new to this semi rural area. The multitude of dangerous transients and vagrants is problematic to the point of being frightening. The derelict population is unusual for such a small community. Day to day living here now entails constant looking over your shoulder for transient criminals who routinely bully, extort, steal and attack. Living here is becoming less and less safe. Although it is the most rural of the many places I have lived in my life, it is the most dangerous. The police reports confirm an uptick in crime since the homeless shelter opened as well as increased numbers of registered sex offenders. The homeless shelter needs to be moved away from elementary and preschools as well as coming senior housing and familily neighborhoods. Or has it already been decided that North Auburn is just going to be the scape goat to bear the burden for all of Placer County?
I love placer county...what few services I do use are just fine.
The biggest concern I have for anything is cost. The services Placer County provides I think are very good, from park maintenance, roads, etc. I just do not want cost for these services to rise to much.
i feel that the animal shelter in tahoe vista was a definite need and that they just ignored all of the community members desire to keep at least a small service there. i feel that we are under represented and that lake tahie should be independent from all the placer county decisions made by people who dont even live in the tahoe area.
STOP contracting out the maintenance duties of our public parks and facilities. placer County employees do a much better job on maintenance then do contractors and they have the ability to connect personally with the public
Placer County Transit should take over western Placer County city transit DAR and fixed-route services and contract with Sac RT to extend their fixed-route services into Placer Co., removing a false barrier at the county line and city limits. This would improve transit service and allow new fixed-route services between Folsom and Roseville/Auburn, and Lincoln to Marysville via CA-65.
I honestly don't know. We called the Placer Sheriffs Office on two vicious barking dogs. They responded. We noticed that they sent 3 deputies to contact a neighbor that was suicidal. I talked to the deputies and was impressed with the time they all took to talk with me. One gave a business card & cell phone. Very polite. I have gone into the public works office in Tahoe Vista and have spoken with Dan about the improvements in the Core. Very helpful. Pete and Donna Pearson 8727 Trout, Kings Beach.
I have called Placer County about road problems. Part of 1 problem was fixed but I never knew if my call had anything to do with it. I would have liked feedback Via phone, email or mail. Always talking to voice mail.
I think the services in Placer County are very good. Having lived in Sacramento County for 30 years, where service was mediocre at best, it's a pleasure living in a county that does such a good job in the service sector.
I believe Placer County's elected officials should listen to it's full time ,tax paying residents The Constituents "will" should over-ride any decision by the Board of Supervisors . Let the People vote on it . This is the only fair way .
I think the Placer county weekly emails is a good start. I would like to see more things listed such as road maintenance, construction projects, new businesses opening, etc.
Law Enforcement is ridiculously unreasonable. I have all the respect in the world for the CHP. Mature reasonable individuals. They are proof positive they embrace "to protect and to serve". Placer Sheriffs......I won't say more because I know they will seek revenge.
At the moment I can't think of an easy way to improve one Placer Co service. most are handled very well, more time to think on it would be helpful. But I really wish that the Placer County Board of Supervisors would listen to the people and what they are saying about over development in the County, particularly in the Tahoe area. Witnessing certain members of the Board being on their cell phones during very important public hearings on Martis Valley and Squaw Valley is difficult to watch. You really get the feeling that their minds are already made up before the meeting starts, and I've seen this in more than one hearing. This is such an important time for Placer Co and the future of this area, it is a turning point and I hope that Placer Co & it's BOS realize that there needs to be a balance between over development vs. money. Thank you.
I don't use many, but am clearly a user of public safety and roads. I'd like to see a financial statement of what the Tahoe Truckee region sends to Placer County in property taxes and fees, and what it sends back in return.
Please provide brochures with information about Placer services. Or even displays at local libraries.
I'm totally pleased with the level of service for rural Placer County!
I don't use the services of Placer, other than roads, of course. And the roads are in good shape.
Very disappointed that Placer County closed the Medical Clinic. It was a much needed service, in many ways to 1000's of people, especially in the Kings Beach area and Auburn.
Pave roads in rural farm areas of Placer county. Provide improved bus transfer areas such as shaded and lit terminals.
I'm not sure...I've only had good experiences with Placer County so I can't say for sure what needs improving.
Establish a full parks program that can work collaboratively with other local, state, and federal agencies to achieve the full potential of park and recreation services in Placer county.
I believe library service areas should be expanding, not contracting. As the population ages, information access becomes more problematic and as Placer has somewhat limited public transportation, outreach is important.
The police, when called, have about 20-25 minute service response time. If it's a non-emergency call they may not come at all...and send report paperwork to resident making the call to complete & return. Fire Dept: We live in an area of West Placer Cty (Dry Creek Area) where so-called "mini ranchers" are allowed to burn their wood & wood products on burn days. However, these "mini ranchers" not only burn dried wood but also burn green freshly cut wood etc. This is clearly a violation of the law. The fire dept, unless called by a homeowner, does not proactively check 1) to establish if they even have a burn permit required by law & 2) the PFD does not check proactively (even on a random basis) what is being burned & unattended fires thus letting the offenders continue....and the offenders continue to pollute the air with high levels of carcinogenic particulate matter On the last point, I have had to call Placer Cty enviormental group to get any action...WAKE UP PLACER CTY!!!!
Web site for Placer County needs improvement. Also correct directions and addresses to County services. Finding the Parks and Rec. Office to reserve a picnic area was very difficult. The wrong address was given, and when I finally found the office - No address posted, they told me they did it on purpose!
Happy with the services Placer County offers.
Request for Placer County to work with State Parks like Folsom so we can have access to shoreline once again? The Folsom Lake gates have been locked at Rattlesnake Bar entry for a few years, and do not see the harm in driving vehicle close to shoreline for canoeing, etc...
Make sure at the school level that students and families are aware of the programs and services that placer county offers. Maybe a flyer or presentation.
Better transportation linkage between cities and towns. For the smaller towns of North Placer, better service into Auburn. For South Placer, better linkage into senior communities to area hospitals and commercial (shopping) areas
I recently moved to Placer County so at this moment I don't have any specific experiences with services. In general I think government needs to be responsive to the needs of the community at all times. Also use technology to help streamline processes and services.
Sadly, representation is not equal throughout the County. The Tahoe portion of Placer County is out voted and underrepresented at the Supervisor level. Incorporation may be our only method of self governance. The Placer County Supervisors do NOT have the Tahoe area's interests at heart. Shame on all of them (save for Jennifer Montgomery) - they do NOT have our best interests at heart.
I have noticed that Placer Country does not take care too well of tree limbs and bushes that are growing over or onto the sidewalk of it's streets, making pedestrians have to walk around to avoid them.
I work for the County so don't really have need to use any of the services. I would like some of the potholes in the roads around Auburn and Roseville to be filled in especially before it starts raining. Other than that, I believe that Placer County does a real good job of trying to stay in tune with the public and their needs.
I do not believe that Placer County representatives are listening to the concerns of people living in the Tahoe-Truckee basin. We are in real danger of fire and yet they approved another 700-some houses, and all the additional traffic that will involve. Our basin is too congested already and we need to find a way to get less cars here, not more. When will a serious study of impacts be done to determine what our maximum capacity is? Many of us believe it has already been reached and are fearful for the future of our beautiful lake and any kind of quality of life.
If Placer county cared more about the safety of homeowners/tax paying citizens in Auburn it would be wonderful. It appears politically correct to back a "wet shelter" in a town with few jobs and poor public transport. Placer county could care less about the actual good citizens of there county!
Placer county board of directors have been disregarding the opinions and voices of the local community on a few development project proposals. I have little faith in the county board of taking any suggestions seriously or taking action on the benefit of local citizens rather than corporate gains. It's very disheartening. However, I will continue to voice my concerns. Here are a few : Placer county seems to neglect kings beach in the winter. That neighborhood has the most year round local citizens who need to commute. However, it's one of the last places to have snow removal. Also, kings beach is neglected as far as enforcing regulations such as illegal dumping and bear ordinances. Overall, I think placer county is more concerned with tourist or second home owners needs and desires than actual full time residents.
New to Placer Co and haven't explored services yet. Coming from someplace where we had better recycling services, I would like to see Recology improve it recycling through the use of multiple bins.
Consolidate all of the special fire districts into one CSA under Placer county fire. This would increase the effectiveness of services provided by having one dispatch center, all personnel have one training standard and most importantly this would get rid of all the special boards who are responsible for the failures of the fire service districts.
I think that often very local homeowners/community members interests are outweighed by money interests and non-local Placer County residents. A good example is Costco, local neighbors were not positive about those discussions/actions. The most local residents should have their voice weighted as it affects their daily lives more than others. When purchasing a home and looking in the future the DeWitt Center was not planned to be commercialized.
Placer County, specifically the BOS, are indifferent to the problems Auburn is having with transients. It's a shame our community is overrun by bums (not to be confused with the needy homeless) and our women and children no longer feel safe to shop, use our parks, etc. Crime is increasing and nothing will help until the shelter is out of North Auburn and into a more suitable area. Santucci Center is a perfect place. Take the parole office with it and utilize the new jail as it should be.
More transparency with land use regulations, especially considering land owned by Placer County (ie: backdoor deals with Costco). Tighten the reins on government assistance programs by making the recipients more accountable for their own situations and what they receive. Create a community of responsible adults instead of leaches. (ie: welfare programs, rent assistance programs, homeless assistance programs)
I would love to be able to take public transportation to work, I live in Roseville and work at the Placer County Govt Center. I know this is not practical or feasible now unless I want my commute to take 2 hours vs 25 minutes but my hope is that this would be something achievable in the future.
Speaking in general: Placer County employees seem to have a poor attitude engrained in them. There is no accountability. There is no desire to serve their employer, the people of Placer County. This is particularly true of the road maintenance section of the DOT. Resurfacing and striping are completed just prior to encroachment permit work, when told of the pending work, they proceeded and said: "we have extra money in our budget and need to use it up before the cycle is over"
I live in North Tahoe and I think the Placer County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors have done a terrible job representing my desires and those of many of my fellow property owners regarding the Martis Valley West development. We in North Tahoe have major concerns regarding emergency evacuation, workforce housing, and over-building of massive vacation homes. It seems that the people in charge have made a show of "listening" to our concerns and then have voted to go ahead and allow this project without a mitigation plan. I'd like those entities to consider how the Martis Valley project will work with all the other big projects that are now under consideration in the Tahoe area. Placer County is fortunate to have the world-class asset of Lake Tahoe in its boundaries and it seems that our leaders are disregarding its and its residents' long-term health for easy, short-term money. On another note, the county should invest much more money and support into its libraries.
Placer county is not my primary county, so I am not fully aware of services available. It would help to have a cheat sheet that I could keep at my residence in case of any issues. So things like sewer backup or other services available to residents. A one page cheat sheet that I can hang on my fridge would be great.
Placer County administrators, particularly The Board of Supervisors, needs to pay attention to the very real, life-threatening emergency evacuation and public safety concerns for the residents and visitors of the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Instead, they arrogantly ignore the stated safety concerns of the California Highway Patrol, North Tahoe Fire Protection District, the States Attorney General, every recognized area environmental organization and the overwhelming will of the residents of the communities they serve. Their blatant disregard for the environmental impacts to Lake Tahoe and the safety and well-being of the surrounding communities for the benefit of real estate developers appears criminal, bought and sold.
