I would like to see a good restaurant that is a step above Applebys so not a chain if that type. This would be a good place for a family meal but also a couple celebrating an anniversary would like it. But not over the top or $$$$ pricing like a lobster shop. Many people I know across a wide range range of ages and income see a need for this. Also, what is happening with the old Captain Nemo’s land? Please no big high rise.
I would like to see more family style places to eat.
Having affordable family friendly dining options is huge for my family and for most people we know. MOD was a great addition. Would love more options like it!
I'm always going to ask for more dining options. There are so few places to meet someone for lunch or take the family to dinner that are not fast food.
Great job growing downtown. Keep that up. And PLEASE...bring back Parks & Rec. My kids have grown out of the program...but it is how we met ALL of our closest friends! It is the foundation of this community, and SHAME on the council members who got rid of it. It is a HUGE benefit to the families, community at large and ESPECIALLY the youth who NEED sports to thrive...particularly the one's that can't afford "club" sports, or those who want a rec option (not a competitive league).
I understand the need to develop the city to draw retail businesses and the commercial tax base but we cannot sustain this massive residential growth with all the new multi-family housing that are going in. The school district is maxed out as it is and the numerous new residents in the multi-family housing buildings will tax the districts resources. With an over-extended school district and zero city-organized youth programs the city of University Place will have very little to offer families. At the point we're at now, I am contemplating my family leaving UP (after living here for 9 years) for a city that has more to offer kids, youth and families. The next two years are a make or break time period for my family in UP.
Please hire more police officers! Please don’t let larger city’s problems ruin UP. Tents, RVs, property crime, drugs; this is all preventable for the most part if strong enforcement is implemented. UP has an amazing school district so families want to be here to raise children. The increase in crime and overall sketchiness has become alarming over the past few years. Please keep UP safe and please take a stronger approach that Seattle and Tacoma when it comes to the drug and homeless issue.
I think the major draw of University Place is not its growth, development and density but it’s small town feel, cleanliness and safety- all things which are negatively affected when you increase density. Already the push from the outside has lead to an increase in panhandling, crime and disorderly conduct. Residents move here because they have no desire to be on pace with Tacoma or Lakewood- they have seen the negative impact of affordable housing and over development. Schools are inevitably affected with population increase and our classrooms are full enough. New schools would need to be built which would only increase taxes. We already pay good (and high) taxes to live in a safe neighborhoods with good schools where we can raise families. It would be a shame to see University Place fall to the same fate we have seen befall the cities we left to come here from.
Thank you for asking! I appreciate the opportunity to give input. Seriously! I will say that my family (with 2 small kiddos) loves hanging out by the Library/Anthem/Whole Foods/Bliss. We'd love some more retail and boutique and/or kid-friendly, family-friendly things to do there. Love the progress so far, and the addition of lights and tables by the duck!
"STOP with the South Hill style growth along Bridgeport Way. NO buildings over 3 stories! Enough with further development of the Town Center; just finish what is underway and leave the rest alone. We do NOT need a "downtown"; that's just bat-[RESTRICTED] crazy! Keep Windmill Village and use it as a much need Community Center. Protect our community from becoming just another hideous Proctor St. Style development! Just say NO to Form-Based Code as a replacement for the zoning we already use; it's there for a reason! Mandate that our City Manager MUST live within U.P. city limits or find another manager who will! We are a family oriented bedroom community so STOP trying to remake University Place into something else!"
