They should stick to bike lanes on the street and not be on sidewalks!
Scooters and bikes should be OFF the sidewalk, but can share the bike lane. Ticket the offenders
They will not obey traffic laws and will disrupt traffic, just wait and see! This is not Downtown LA!!!! They already drive outside the bike lanes into traffic. Just like they own the road!!!!!
When visiting San Francisco last year, the scooters on the sidewalks were a nightmare. The riders assumed the scooter had the right of way always and nearly ran over people every few feet. The shared bikes were better since they used the bike lanes rather than speeding around on the sidewalk.
The bike lanes that were just updated are basically empty and have reduced the car lanes size. And after seeing the way these are all over downtown San Diego and downtown Long Beach, who’s going to be responsible for the pick up. Fix Central Park first, been here 21 years, still waiting....
Don't take away car traffic lanes like some cities did, and caused heavy slow traffic.
A less healthy alternative to walking, these scooters present a hazard to pedestrians as well as to inattentive riders. They are basically litter that you can ride on. RC sidewalks are generally too narrow in the first place and the bike lanes don't have enough separation from traffic to prevent the scooters from being a traffic hazard.
I have seen much use in the inner cities of these modes of transportation. There will be pedestrian safety issues, police related reporting and time use issues, and congestion on sidewalks and bike lanes. This is a bad idea.
What would the age limit be? Like personal watercraft, too many people treat them like toys & are very irresponsible when operating them. I don’t think scooters & bicycles should share the bike lanes which would be too dangerous for bike riders.
Bike lanes along side traffic is a horrible cheap solution. European countries put bike lanes next to pedestrian sidewalk. I saw a mother the other day in Claremont riding with 2 children in training wheels along side cars doing 45mph. I cringed. Bike lanes are jot only for guys with spandex checking their lap times around the block. But for even children. The present bike lanes are a death trap.
Rancho Cucamonga would be a ridiculous place to incorporate bike share. There not enough safe travel lanes for bikes. Not enough people know anything about how to safely ride a bike on the street. Drivers don't have enough respect for cyclists on the street. No would use them most of the year because it's way too hot. Rancho is definitely not a safe area for scooters.
The success of implementing bike and scooter sharing depends upon where it’s activated and range. I can’t see a specific area in Rancho Cucamonga where it would be feasible, and safe, other than victoria gardens and terra vista malls. Until we have comprehensive bike lanes, and sidewalks throughout the city, it seems premature to install these stations now. To add, local speed limits and cell phone use while driving still need to be properly enforced. I don’t think that Adopting the paradigm of sharing the road is a big priority for folks around here. I don’t ride on street if I can help it and use sidewalks as much as possible to get to the pacific electric trail, because I don’t want to get taken out by a car. Just my two cents. Thank you for asking!
