I wish Comcast would expand down Pleasant Valley Rd.
We are feet away from Comcast, 30k to reach our house per their estimate, no "line of sight" to get better service. ATT lowest speed is all that is available besides cost and service prohibitive satellite internet (HughesNet).
I’m served by Comcast, but please help our rural neighbors get service! Most important economic development issue for rural areas.
It would definitely be nice to have some more options! I had ATT, now I have Comcast. Not a fan of Comcast, but couldn’t handle the slow speed of ATT any more. As far as I could tell those are really our only options.
Frustrated with the terrible customer service at Comcast and disappointed that my cable related options are limited since they are sheltered from competition as a Utility.
We currently live in El Dorado Hills and have Comcast, and the internet speed and quality is great. We have been looking at buying property in the Rescue or Shingle Springs area, and we are having issues finding good quality internet that you can rely on. Unfortunately we find that most of the homes out there have lousy internet, and unfortunately internet speed and quality is a make or break it for us, as my husband works from home. Comcast charges very high dollars to run internet out to homes on acreage, I think the County should try and work something out with them to get the pricing down.
I have a Fiber Optic line running directly in front of my property that could provide high speed internet for my home business but it's limited to public agencies (fire, schools, etc). I assume a lot of money went into laying that line and am dismayed that adequate foresight was not used to expand it's capabilities to local businesses (at minimum) if not residences. I wouldn't think the number of users in this rural environment would eat up enough bandwidth of Fiber Optic capabilities to diminish those agency's usage. To wit, my satellite internet has cut in & out several times in the past couple of hours alone due to the weather, thus interrupting my business operations, as well as my ability to respond to this survey. I have contacted Comcast for wired services multiple times but the quoted cost of $21,000 to run a line here is ludicrous.
I've had AT&T DSL, AT&T U-Verse and Comcast in my homes. DSL got me about 6 Mbps in Camino, U-Verse got me less than 2 Mbps in Shingle Springs (500 ft from Red Hawk), and Comcast between 20 - 30 Mbps in Cameron Park. Although 20 -30 Mbps does the job for me, it would be nice to come closer to the 100 Mbps that Comcast advertises.
Would like competition for ISPs, but I haven't had many issues with Comcast.
We need more high speed providers. Comcast is the only one in my area.
I'd like to see speed at least 25 MBPS, 50 would be even better. Had 150 mbps with comcast when I was in the Bay Area.
Need 25 mbps and an unlimited connection. 50 mbps would be even better. Had comcast 150 in the Bay Area before we came to EDC. Was told that our 2.5 mbps service would be upgraded soon by cal.net. No changes in 30 months, still 2.5 mbps, at least its unlimited.
We need somebody to compete with Comcast, which is the only option for many of us.
Internet speed is extremely important. Comcast and AT&T and not investing resources in older communities to provide top speeds. It is possible that they might not be seeing ROI on homes/mile of cable put in which results in stunted speeds and not enough competition.
We need something better than Comcast and AT&T
Comcast/infinity is way too expensive for what they provide
I find it ridiculous that Comcast thinks it is reasonable to price 50mbps for my business account at a higher rate than my 150mbps at home. Why does Comcast get the monopoly for fast internet? Why can't AT&T provide the same? BRING US GOOGLE FIBER
I would like to see more broadband options, Comcast is terrible
Would love to have faster internet. Comcast not available in our neighborhood (Highland Hills), so our choices are very limited. We have AT&T as do our neighbors, since that’s about the only choice, but apparently they aren’t expanding their capacity to allow for newer homes. Our next door neighbor built his house 3 years ago, but had to pirate our internet for a year because these providers don’t know how quickly homes are being built in this area.
I am able to get internet via Comcast but it is expensive. I'm luckier than friends who have less access. Not part of your survey but I have problem getting my cell phone to work at my house even though I'm only 5 miles east of bell tower & on a ridge.
The only choice is Comcast. When are we getting fiber???????
All services suck except for Comcast which is more expensive.
Would like to have more options than just Comcast.
I resent that Comcast operates news and entertainment content, foreign language and sports channels I do not watch but increasing rates subsidize, as well as broadcast distribution, delivery and access through subscribers. Morally degrading content and PC standards of judgment do not represent values that promote common decency and civility. Competitors for internet service tend to be far inferior, especially for those using satellite providers in hills and valleys where Comcast and AT&T do not have infrastructure.
Costs for Comcast are extremely high!
I think it would be great for the county to provide internet access throughout, with high speed wifi. It is absurd the prices Comcast charges. The others that are fast enough are about the same. Then, people can spend more money in our county at local businesses ($75 or more each month savings!). Cellular is still too expensive to really be one's internet. Wouldn't just a small property tax increase fund it?
We cannot get service through the major providers (AT&T, Dish, Comcast) only these independents that charge way too much for the service provided.
I pay the highest rate via Comcast/Xfinity that is offered & still have issues with speed. I’ve tried AT&T & it’s even worse. We would LOVE to see this improved.
We got rid of our internet because the service was so terrible. We had to buy a sprint iPad and a sprint phone with hotspots because they work better for home internet than what we had. But sprint doesn’t work anywhere except our house so we have Verizon as our cell phones. A working high speed internet, like Comcast, would be appreciated in the Kesley area.
Took almost a year for Comcast to get through El Dorado County process to do street dig for access.
I live 2 miles south of Diamond Springs, off of Patterson Dr. No Comcast. No AT&T Wi-Fi (only land line). Limited to no Verizon Wi-Fi. I have unreliable, slow Hughes.net satellite service (good weather dependent). I am 1/2 mile south of Deer Park Estates that has all of these service providers available. My neighborhood consists of parcels 5 acre or larger with no current incentive of service providers to construct my way. I am not optimistic about my future internet service.
Although I am happy with the current internet service, we have only one provider, AT&T. I would like to see more choices, specifically, Comcast.
Comcast is very strict about where they will bring cable here in Pollock Pines. When we built the house, we paid PG&E to run poles and lines. We paid AT&T to run lines. Called Comcast and they just said no!
WEll it is better than it was 10 years ago but that is true everywhere . I wanted ATT which is cheaper but it doesn't work here so I'm stuck paying the expensive Comcast spectrum bill.
It would be nice if Comcast would expand more Into rural shingle springs. That would allow for more high speed internet access where they already have a small footprint. If el dorado county is considering allowing a franchise it would be a good idea to require them to provide access for schools like they did many years ago in Sacramento county. - Dustin Koelzer
Comcast is exorbitantly expensive but it has fast speeds which I would like to have, but it is not available in my location in the Hidden Springs Villa Mobile Home Park in Placerville. I can't understand why that is.
It would be good if Comcast could expand more into rural shingle springs.
Not enough options, ATT sold out in some areas, Comcast is only available where cable is available, satellite just plain doesn't work well.
AT&T U-Verse / high speed 2 wire DSL has major issues in the morning that need to be addresed, The residents in the rural areas along Durock Road need comcast or some other reliable high speed solution!
Comcast Xfinity is really the only option with acceptable speeds. It would be great to have a viable fiberoptic network or other options.
