I live in the Thoroughbred light zone and have been heavily impacted by the lights for many Christmases while I think the drive-thru only helped as far as overall safety I think it diminish The Experience quite a bit also there was a very bright Spotlight placed on Sapphire and Banyan on the corner which was blinding when you drove down Banyan towards Sapphire that needs to be dealt with a suggestion would be that using the parks nearby as a staging area perhaps some sort of shuttle service would allow for a better experience for the residence and for the viewers of the lights allowing themm to walk along and take more time to view the lights also reducing the pollution from the cars
People complained about the long wait and long line of cars, but there has always been a long wait and long line. That did not change this year. Biggest change was streets not blocked by parked cars of pedestrians and the trash and litter was much better. During the days prior to Dec. 15, litter and dirty diapers left in surrounding streets was still bad. Drive thru only eliminated that. I think it was a good compromise to allow some days leading up to the holiday for pedestrians, but peak times was good for drive thru only. Keep this plan
Drive thru ordinance put me off from going this year. It’s just not the same as walking through the neighborhood with family and friend admiring the decorations
Drive thru is a great idea to improving the residential traffic congestion.
Less drive thru only days please. It's nice to be able to walk with the family and take time to look at all the displays.
Due to the problems that arose from a few troublemakers I see why it's important to have the drive-thru only X. Thank you Rancho Cucamonga for trying to make this a safe and enjoyable experience
Although the Drive-thru probably did improve things for those who were complaining, I am extremely concerned about placing movement restrictions on "residents". I am located within the police protected area, but I don't think I was considered a "resident" with walk through privileges. I live at Thoroughbred and Cameo. I have major concerns about the appropriateness and legality of being told that I cannot move about freely in my own neighborhood area to walk through the lights. When we start restricting freedom of movement, it begins to erode all of our freedoms. For that reason, I am against this in future years. Be careful what you give away my fellow neighbors!!
Drive thru only seems like it would get viewers through the area faster versus having pedestrians and additional parked cars in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Rescind the "Drive Thru Only" ordinance. We'll never go back unless pedestrians are allowed. We drove through the neighborhood and the Christmas feeling was completely ruined. I don't understand the huge police presence, at least 10 deputies. They had brought it all: spotlights, motorcycles, mobile command post. More like a major crime scene than a Christmas display. If I lived there, I would stop the exterior decorations.
Next year maybe have drive thru only days be on Sundays and weekdays and let people walk through on Friday and Saturday night. Kids really look forward to being able to walk the streets and see all of the “Christmas sparkles.”
drive thru but better yewt no more lights still had a hard time getting ion and neighbors were still selling crap and some people were still walking around
Loved the "drive thru only" ordinance. Went on the 20th and it was a great experience, traffic flowed nicely. Was able to see all the beautiful houses in a very comfortable and safe manner.
Should be walk only and then drive thru only.
Some of the questions were difficult to answer given the limited responses. 1. IF residents read the local paper, or received email from the city or saw the flashing signs they had adequate communication; BUT non-residents may not have known about the "drive thru only". 2. What do the residents of Thoroughbred think/feel? Were the sales of items that they use to finance this event affected? 3. How much does the increased city activity/police cost yearly? 4. Personally I prefer walking as you see more and support the residents; but I understand the parking in the neighborhood is horrendous. I think your plan afforded that option before the cut off date.
Pedestrians only would make event more enjoyable. Will not drive thru.
The only reason I didn’t go this year wasn’t because of that ordinance. I don’t like drive thru only days at all.
It must be difficult to plan all of the facets involved with this seasonal display. Some of the residents thought the drive thru only ordinance caused delays in traffic movement. Others expressed thankfulness that most of the wandering visitors did not trespass, improperly use the bushes or otherwise destroy the decorations. There is no easy or one right answer. Evolution of the residents wanting to offer eye-pleasing delights to strangers sometimes has created unthought of consequences. Hopefully the joy intended with find a happy balance for a few more years.
I would rather a "pedestrian only scheme" be created instead of "drive thru only." This could be accomplished by "parking by permit only" enforcement for the month of December on all streets within a one mile radius of Thoroughbred and Sapphire. The loop would be barricaded and patrolled by police; only walkers and golf carts would be allowed between 6 and 11... NO CARS. Permits could be obtained by non-residents online for $25. Only 150 non-residential permits a night would be issued. Residents would have 2 guest parking permits issued, more if they applied for a specific night only to address having a large party. This would limit traffic, and bring this event back to a LOCAL COMMUNITY event like it once was many years ago (I have lived in Alta Loma since 1968, long before those homes were built).
Would have preferred a walk thru only ordinance
Was so easy to get home during drive thru period. Vast improvement over past years.
The neighborhood residents are extremely limited in being able to walk around their own neighborhoods during the "Drive Thru Only" dates. My own family's Christmas tradition was being able to walk thru these same neighborhoods on any day we chose prior to the new ordinance dates. The city appears to be overstepping their authority when they put restrictions on how citizens enjoy the Christmas season. To this date I have never heard of any safety issues related to walking through the Thoroughbred's neighborhoods.
Huge improvement not having all the people parking and walking thru our neighborhoods and leaving trash.
I would like the days closer to Christmas to allow for walking, and have the Drive thru Only days earlier in the season, if they must happen at all
I think the Drive Thru is good for all the neighbors in this community. I would hope that the trash and vandalism rates went down. These gracious people brighten our holidays and deserve respect and good manners.
I think the "Drive Thru Only" ordinance is a violation of citizen"s rights. I think it is a dangerous precedent. I live in the Thoroughbred lights neighborhood. I have suffered from dirty diapers behind my walls, etc. But I do not believe the city has the right to curtail the freedom of people who don't live in my neighborhood. Is the intent to eventually shut down the display?!?
If you must keep this ordinance, which by the way, I feel is taking away people's right to walk on a public street, DO NOT increase the amount of Drive-Thru Only days. Also, consider allowing people that live in the surrounding area (just outside of the decorated area) to walk thru just like like the decorators and their guests. The portal that residents had to use to sign up for the nightly guest count was faulty at times. We couldn't always get our request to go through, even after several attempts.
drive thru should be phased out and walking only should be phased in. The residents know what they are getting into by doing this
Seems to me that it kind of defeats the purpose to only have drive thru. But then again, I don't live on Thoroghbread so I don't have to deal with that traffic and would probably like the ordinance if I did live there (or nearby).
The “drive thru only” should not effect everyone around the area. Traffic is so bad it’s backed all the way to the freeway off ramp. This should be addressed.
Much safer for autos and time thru the lights was the best. Was able too see more since I didn’t have to watch for all the walkers.
The residents like walk thru It’s their neighborhood let them decide. I personally know people there and they have fun and connect to the walkers during this holiday time. Would you have a drive through in Disney land?
Did not go this year because it was drive thru only.
When I 1st moved here in 2014 it was nice to take a walk through the neighborhood---I won't go now that it's drive thru only--I will go to Ontario or somewhere else
Can my neighborhood be drive thru only to keep the section 8 folks away?
Stop trying to take away the Rights of the tax paying U.S. Citizens!! Also, stop misrepresenting this "Drive Thru Only" as a city Ordinance. The Ordinance is not written as such.
I didn't go to see the lights this year because I wasn't able to go before the Drive Thru Only days. I didn't think it would be worth the wait for hours to not be able to fully appreciate the neighborhood.
