Rescind the "Drive Thru Only" ordinance. We'll never go back unless pedestrians are allowed. We drove through the neighborhood and the Christmas feeling was completely ruined. I don't understand the huge police presence, at least 10 deputies. They had brought it all: spotlights, motorcycles, mobile command post. More like a major crime scene than a Christmas display. If I lived there, I would stop the exterior decorations.
Although I know the City is trying to do its best to help the situation, I don't feel as though my tax dollars should be going in any way to support a neighborhood putting on a light display. That is not a good use of our funds. if they want to create the mess, they need to pay for the security and police protection not the rest of the City.
I feel that the area should have been “Walk-Through Only” instead of drive through. For one thing, it’s much easier to see and enjoy the beautiful lights and decorations when you’re traveling on foot. You can also stop and admire for as long as you wish, since you won’t be holding up traffic with your car. Also, walking is way more effective at allowing people to enjoy each other’s company, in person, and to chit-chat, or even share goodies and hot cider with those neighbors who may wish to offer it. And finally, this is HEALTHY RC! We should be trying to encourage physical activity, not discourage it! Time to use our legs, RC! And time to socialize with each other... not seclude ourselves in our own separate enclosed vehicles. Just my opinion!
Some of the questions were difficult to answer given the limited responses. 1. IF residents read the local paper, or received email from the city or saw the flashing signs they had adequate communication; BUT non-residents may not have known about the "drive thru only". 2. What do the residents of Thoroughbred think/feel? Were the sales of items that they use to finance this event affected? 3. How much does the increased city activity/police cost yearly? 4. Personally I prefer walking as you see more and support the residents; but I understand the parking in the neighborhood is horrendous. I think your plan afforded that option before the cut off date.
I feel that the drive only policy reduced trash and other deposits left by the people visiting the lights. "Drive only" is much more desirable for the surrounding neighborhoods. Keep up the good work of trying to control the foolishness of the people visiting. Maybe next year it can be a drive only event.
I feel that sidewalks shouldn't be regulated. I didn't go because i enjoy walking and seeing the lights. I will not be going there again while these overreaching rules are in effect.
Sheriff’s deputies could use a little more discretion on how they treat people even driving through. Motor cops yelling at cars about headlights and driving back and forth makes it feel like you’re being escorted, at 5mph and ruins the family time. Some of us are residents from a couple blocks away, not tourists. But now we don’t have the option to walk...
Some of us have lived in Alta Loma long before those thoroughbred homes were built. I feel we have rights to live in our neighborhood without all the traffic and people up here too. Those thoroughbred people think they are the only ones who have rights !!!!!!!!! I think the city should stop the Christmas lights and let people go where you don't have one way up and one way down. I am just waiting for the City to be sued for something bad that might happened because of those lights.
Heard many comments on the wait time to drive through as well as the drive route. The regulations have somewhat impacted the community feel of the event - too many rules, no contact with homeowners as you go through..
I feel that it should be a “walk only” event for those dates. Use shuttles to help with parking.
I don’t know how it worked because I haven’t heard from any of the residents. I do know that people online were complaining about it taking almost an hour just to go a couple of blocks on 19th. Many times people asked for clarification on the new times for walking vs driving. I’d like to hear from the residents how they feel it went.
If you must keep this ordinance, which by the way, I feel is taking away people's right to walk on a public street, DO NOT increase the amount of Drive-Thru Only days. Also, consider allowing people that live in the surrounding area (just outside of the decorated area) to walk thru just like like the decorators and their guests. The portal that residents had to use to sign up for the nightly guest count was faulty at times. We couldn't always get our request to go through, even after several attempts.
I feel that this year was perfect. I don't know how it could have gone any better. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
We were very happy with the new ordinance in our neighborhood. It's the first time in at least 15 years that we didn't feel like we were prisoners in our own home. It felt wonderful to not have our street and yard filled with strangers and it solved a majority of the litter problem. Thank you RCPD for keeping us safe and hearing our side of this problem!
Walking the lights was a family tradition. Driving through just didn't feel the same and we couldn't get the typical sized group together in on car so we skipped this year. Understand the desire to improve things but wish the opposite had happened and made it walking only with guides/tape keeping people back from yards. You can move a lot more people down the center of the street than cars.
The line of cars was so long that we left the line before entering the neighborhood. I feel the ordinance made the situation worse. I would like to see a pedestrian only access, with no vehicles, except for the people who live there.
Bring back the [RESTRICTED] [RESTRICTED] Parade. Bring back the things that made this City feel like a community and that the Council actually cared about the residents
