Allowing a 20-25' open distance from building entrances/exits as a buffer zone from a designated smoking area would be nice.
Minimum distance should be 100 feet from any entrance to vape or smoke for courtesy
Smoking or vaping should be restricted from any public places and a certain distance from public places.
I think that the concept of restricting smoking to being a certain distance from an entryway is a good and valid one. I think that attempting to restrict smoking from any sidewalks or in parking structures where there should be room for others to move and there should be more airflow to dissipate the smoke/vapor is placing yet another restriction on smokers that should still have the option to smoke if they desire. This whole movement to force people not to smoke (or vape) is reminiscent of the Prohibition and we all saw where that ended up. It is still a basic freedom to allow individuals to make some personal choices about their own health and well being. I would like to think that most would attempt to be courteous but, considering the ever-increasing restrictions being imposed on them, I can understand if there might be some difficulty for them to maintain that courtesy.
I thought there was already an ordinance prohibiting smoking within a certain distance from any public building.
Smokers should have an available space for smoking within a reasonable distance of the building where they work. Smoking is not a crime, but second hand smoke can be detrimental. Each building needs to find a balance.
Keep smokers and vapers away from the entrance and approaches to all government buildings. Since they know they're pushed outside because their behavior is unhealthy and repulsive to others, why must they always congregate around the entrances to buildings where it continues? Keep them a sufficient distance away that other people don't have to walk through their haze.
I think it's fair to ask people to smoke or vape a reasonable distance from a county building. Folks that smoke or vape have a right to do that, but others also have a right not to have to breathe that when they are heading into a public building.
Setting aside a specific distance away form the doors and windows makes very good sense. Prohibiting it entirely, unless it is truly warranted, seems extreme.
Unfortunately, even current regulations regarding smoking are ignored, and affect people downwind, not just those within a certain distance.
For as long as it's legal, people smoking or vaping need to do it outside. So you can't ban it "outside". Perhaps specify a 25 foot distance from the building perimeter or something like that. Or set up a designate "Ok to smoke" area with a bench, an ash receptacle, and an umbrella or covering.
As long as it’s not following me or anyone else into a building, I think people can do what they want. distance is the obvious choice.
There should be restrictions on smoking and vaping within a given distance of public buildings. It is a particular problem if they are smoking near a building air intake.
Smoking should be a minimum distance from all doorways.
If smokers/vapors are a good distance away from entrances of the buildings I don't have a problem with it. That's why I had to answer "not sure" to one of the questions. Ok in the parking lot; not ok by entrance
A 20 foot distance is not sufficient. 100 feet or more should be the rule.
A good idea but should be a given distance away, then possibly certain areas for smokers designated??
should never be allowed. the distance needs to be very, very far.
A distance from doors of at least 50' would be great.
As long as they are a reasonable distance from entrances, folks should be free to smoke outdoors
You lost me at sidewalks and parking lots. How about we just increase the distance from doors and windows? Currently it's at least 20 feet and on a breezy day that's just not far enough away. If we take away people's right to smoke in parking lots or sidewalks or just taking away too much. I don't question someone's right to smoke I do question their will to live. Let's just provide them smoking areas that are far enough away from people's cars and building windows and doors so that places of business don't smell too smokey. Perhaps we could install small decontamination booths to blow the cigarette smoke off of them before they entered the building?
I think it should be a distance from others that don't smoke. Parking lots are taking it too far. I don't smoke but understand people have a choice. there should be a designated area for smokers
While 2nd hand smoke is absolutely a danger in regards to cigarettes, numerous studies have shown the 2nd hand vapor from e-cigarettes does not contain any harmful elements and the nicotine is almost entirely absorbed by the lungs. I am in support of prohibiting any form of smoking near doorways or windows, but should be allowed anywhere that is a reasonable distance away such as parking lots
Should be a designated area to smoke at least fifty feet away. (A standard used by the VA.) Even that is not enough distance due to drifting smoke. [My wife is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and has difficulty getting through those hanging around the doors smoking.]
Smokers should be a very good distance from doorways & nearby public walkways.
Needs to be enough distance to compensate for winds and air currents that can carry the smoke or vaping to those offended
Create a smoking area at a distance sufficient to prevent most from being subjected to 2nd hand inhalation.
Provide an attractive and welcoming "smoke spot" a short distance apart from the regular county office area. Perhaps coffee, soft drinks, tables, seating, etc.
I agree with sidewalks being prohibited, but I think the parking lot should be allowed, maybe extend the distance from the entrance
